Date: 03 June 2003 For Immediate Release Title: CALL FOR SUSPENSION OF ELCA MEMBERSHIP IN LUTHERAN WORLD FEDERATION CCM Verax is calling for the membership of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) to be suspended. Most of the world's Lutheran churches belong to the LWF. Detailed research published in January 2002 shows that the ELCA achieved the passage of Called to Common Mission (CCM) in 1999 with information known to be false at the time. CCM is the full communion agreement between the ELCA and the Episcopal Church, USA. This ecumenical scandal is now known as "Mitergate." CCM requires the ELCA to comply with Anglican principles of structural uniformity for unity. These principles are anchored in sixteenth and seventeenth century English laws which sought to eradicate non-episcopalian forms of Christianity in Britain. The Pilgrim Fathers came to America to escape the persecution used to secure such principles. CCM Verax asserts that the ELCA has forfeited its right to be called a Lutheran church because it has used "grand deception" in order to conform its ordained ministry to these oppressive principles of Anglicanism. Consequently, until the matter can be fully investigated and resolved, CCM Verax is calling for the ELCA to be suspended from the LWF. The call for the ELCA's suspension appears in the Pentecost 2003 edition of the CCM Verax International Newsletter. This occasional newsletter is sent to all top ELCA officials, to top officials in the Episcopal Church, to all LWF member church leaders, and to other interested persons and organizations.
